I used a program called BIOS Wizard to provide some information about my BIOS. You can find the program here.
http://www.unicore.com/bioswiz/index.html

The info I got is shown below:

Program: Unicore Chip Detect v0.72 2000.03.10
BIOS Date: 10/01/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 10/01/1999-VP4-686-IPC_VIAC-00
BIOS Eval: (IPC_TRI) EVALUATION ROM - NOT FOR SALE
Chipset: VIA 82C501 rev 3
Superio: VIA 686 rev 27 found at port 7h

[snip] If you look at this mobo, the chipset is the same and the AWDFLASH available for it does create a 256K bios dump from the current iopeners.

There are common motherboards that use the VIA 82C501.

Check out http://207.226.164.58/products/pc/5via73.htm
(www.acorp.com.tw) Board is 5VIA73

BIOS at http://www.acorp.com.tw/bios/via.htm

Assuming your IO uses the same chipset, this BIOS *should* work.

Cool, but which one is the correct generic BIOS rom to download? I'm seeing quite a few on this page:

Oops, spoke a bit too soon -- 5VIA73 ... ok, so that narrows it down to two revisions (a and b). I'm guessing either one, huh?

On http://www.ping.be/bios/numbers.shtml there is a very good list of chipsets that are referenced by the unique bios id number that shows on boot. Can someone please post that number? The description of reading that number is as follow from this site:

-----------------------------------------------
Let's show you an example of an Award BIOS id:
2A59IZ1DC-00

The first 5 characters identify the chipset. 2A59I stands for the Intel Triton TX chipset. You can find an extensive list of chipsets if you scroll down a bit.

The sixth & seventh character identify the manufacturer: in this case it's Z1. If you look at the Award Hardware Vendors list (see below) you'll find that the manufacturer is Zida/Tomato

The 8th character (most of the times, not always!) identifies the model. I say 'most of the times' because the manufacturer can use the same 8th character for all models based on a particular chipset!.

The C-00 at the end doesn't mean much.

-----------------------------------------------

This may give us even more of an idea as to which chipset exactly is in the IO. They also have some good utilities for determing chipset and manufacturer info. Can someone with an IO please post the BIOS id number if that is possible.

The previous post had good info but did not have any numbers like 213V1 that could be referenced in that list.

ftpgod:

The bios ID is listed in the first post of this thread. It looks like we have an evaluation version and the nameing does not follow the convention you described. I did go to the web page you referenced and I found the 5 digit prefix that identifies the chipset used in the IO.

2A6LI -- Via MVP4 VIA 601(Trident video on-chip)/686A (Modem on-chip, Sound on-chip)

I did not see any specific BIOS listed that used this 5 digit prefix.

We have been studying the issue and any standard BIOS will not set up the LCD controller for you.

That is the problem, the way the display is done, it is not like a standard VGA.

So I am starting a new area for a "project" where we can make a open BIOS from scratch to get linux to boot.

We need some good minds to help out. Codeman and I are on it, but we will need help.

Check out the new area and let's get started!
