Location of 5V power so FAN shuts off when IO enters Standby
Location of 5V power so FAN shuts off when IO enters Standby

New MessageLocation of 5V power so FAN shuts off when IO enters Standby (modified 0 times) ravton
It's beyond my meager ability to find a location to pull power from so that when the IO enters standby mode the fan is powered off. Both COM2 and IDE stay at the full 5V when the IO is in standby.

Somebody has probably done this already. Can you please post your results?

Thank,
Ravton@yahoo.com

Maybe a connector on the VGA header powers down on standby if the display/PMS settings are set appropriately. If that's true, you could connect the fan to *that*, given it's 5v.

You know something? This thread has come up before and I made that very same suggestion (because I have *MY* fan hooked to the VGA out).

I STILL haven't checked to see if the fan shuts off when it goes into standby mode... UG.

Totally forgot about that.

Yeah, I checked that a while ago. Nope. I run the fan on off my IO's from there as well.

If someone knows where you can get the pinout for the hard disk IDE line, you could just connect it to the pins that power the stepper! Or you could find the pins on the display that power the LCD, use a 2222 and pass 5V through that puppy. It might not switch however, depending on the current passed by the display, you would probably want a cap or two and definitely a diode. You don't want reverse EMF through the iopener, that could be bad...

Obviously, you know absolutely nothing about stepper motors and search engines.

You might also want to feed that puppy some resistors and hookup wire, while you're at it.

Is forward EMF a good thing?

Hddd, I think you'll find the HDD is put into suspend mode by a software command rather than any hardware signal.

I'd thought of using the display power but you can have the display turn off but the rest of the machine still running so the cpu would cook, not ideal.

I've been all over the IO ,motherboard with a scope while going in and out of suspend mode, if there is anything that goes changes state in suspend mode i couldn't find it.
