I am guessing you have installed a mini-pci modem or nic/modem combo card. This is probably win98's attempt to identify and install drivers for the modem.

Yeah - I have a mini-pci NIC/Modem installed - but I already installed the Modem drivers and the NIC drivers. The NIC is fully functional. I don't have a dial up (thank god) so I can't test the modem - but I would assume that it works. I kinda wonder if the com ports are on the PCI bus. I sure hope not - because I need one of them. I guess I'll test them out. Oh, and I know that by default one of them is disabled in the BIOS.
