I got a PS/2 mouse working with my Virgin (as in - not though the USB port)

Yeah - as the subject stated - It is possible to use a PS/2, not just USB, mouse. I realized that the PS/2 mouse (irq 12) should be attached to the southbridge. Also - I made a guess here: though I couldn't find the pinout for the southbridge - I still felt that most likely the mouse pins would be right next to the keyboard pins on both the AVR and the southbridge. So - I traced them out with a handy continuity tester on my multimeter - and what do ya know? They were all quite close to each other on both chips. Strangely enough - my keyboard stopped working - and I really just don't know why. I'm still working on that and hopefully I'll have a solution soon. I'm guessing that one pin isn't making contact - but that's just a preliminary guess.

Neato. Yeah, there was a post either here or somewhere else (a WebPlayer website) that explains a way to make a PS/2 connection but also "disables" the keyboard. Perhaps there is some sort of intermediary controller circuit (not present on the WP?) that rotates control between the keybaord and mouse port -- I'm only guessing of course -- and could be fleshed out on a "normal" motherboard? Dunno.

I'm thinking of one of those PS/2 number keypads (sans the letters) instead of a mouse -- so then I would need a USB keyboard and USB mouse.

But my question to you really is: With a PS/2 mouse working, can a USB keyboard work?

Wait - do you mean someone found a way to attach a PS/2 keyboard, or a ps/2 mouse? 'cause I know about the keyboard - you just have to disconnect the keyboard clock and data pins coming from the AVR - and then plug in the keyboard. But I've never found any mention of a ps/2 mouse. I've tried all sorts of things - and the keyboard refuses to work if either or both of the mouse pins are disconnected.

This web page has a note near the end about the PS/2 mouse connection: http://www.webplayer.0catch.com/html/PS2_Keyboard.htm

Kray seemed to lack my spirit. He was like "oh the keyboard doesn't work when a PS/2 mouse is plugged in. Oh phooey." I'm like "the keyboard doesn't work when a ps/2 mouse is plugged in? WTF? I'm a gonna change that #### dog!" Or something like that... Anyways - I say the odds are a million to one that if you plugged in both an external ps/2 keyboard and an external ps/2 mouse that they both would work just fine. So - I believe that the AVR is the problem. It just needs to be fooled into thinking that it is in fact attatched to the southbridge. How do I plan on doing that? wouldn't you just love to find out? hehehehehe...

Anyways - once I get it working - I'll post very exact details.
