Ummm, the title pretty much says it: Does anyone know how to connect the 56K modem on a mini pci card? I'd experiment with it - except that I don't have a dial up ISP to test it on... (thank god!!!)

It's been a while since I've played with/hacked my webplayers...but isn't the modem serial? If that's the case you can't just connect it right to a mini pci card.

no no no no - I ditched the included modem a while ago. I have a mini PCI Ethernet/modem card - and it just has some wierd connector on it - not a standard phone plug (isn't it called like RJ22 or something like that?)

Slightly wider than the normal telephone connector but looks similar??? Probably RJ45, used for the Ethernet. If you don't have another connector on there for the modem, then it probably ain't. Dunno, are there combo plugs for telephone and ethernet that split off for the appropriate connections (RJ22???)?

This is what the card looks like: http://www.geocities.com/snailmail_1999/minipci2.html The small two pin plug is for the phone.

What's the make? What's the FCC ID? Very interesting card; never knew these existed except as PC card (PCMCIA).

The modem connection is easy. Ill look for the link later, but you can get sample connector from a company but they usually want a lot of information (I think they are getting wise to what the connectors are used for). I never did get mine.

If you have some soldering skill it really isnt hard to do. It is just 2 pins that go to a keystone jack (jack is a rj11 or rj12) and is available from www.trinci.com. It will run you about 4 bucks plus shipping. You need to solder 2 wires to the 2 pins on the mini-pic and then connect the other end of the wires to the center pins of the keystone jack (usually red/green or blue/blue-white). It doesnt matter which wire connects to which of the pins from the 2 wire connector.

On this site, I also put up instructions in an earlier post here on how to set up an ethernet connector too.
