Power management w/Win9x?
Does power management work with Win9x

The only thing that doesn't work perfectly on my WebPlayer with Win98 is power management. My understanding is that the BIOS supports APM, but when I select "Start", and "Shutdown", the only gets to the "It is now safe to shutdown your machine.", not an actual power off. If I select "Start" and "Standby", the machine seems to go to sleep OK, and a keypress or mouse movement seems to wake up the machine, but the display doesn't come back. Has anyone gotten these things to work correctly?

I'm having the same problem as well. Win98 is installed and working great, except when it comes to shutting down. I'm left with the "Your computer is safe to turn off now" message, but pushing the power button on the front of the WP doesn't actually do a full power off. Then pushing the power button to turn on, I just see the same screen. I too have to pull the power cord to restart everyting up again.

Is this what everyone is experiencing or is there a configuration I am missing? This is the only problem I have, I can live with it but if I don't have to...

I don't have an answer to the APM problem with windows, but I can tell you that to power down the Web Player you only need to hold down the power button for 5 seconds. You don't need to unplug it.

There must be a way to get Windows to shut it down since QNX could do it.

It works for me. I guess maybe it's more then 5 seconds...maybe 6 or 7. Just keep holding it down till it turns off. It's a hardware feature of the motherboard so it should definately work.

I'm about to give up. The power button just refuses to act as a power off button for my WP with WIN98SE. In Windows, I select "Shut Down" which takes me to the "It is safe to ..." message. I push the power button, doesn't matter how long, it will just place the WP in standby mode. No matter how many times I push the power button, that is were it stays until I pull the power plug.

Are there any BIOS settings or Windows Control Panel settings that need to change so my WP does a power off when I push the button?

Otherwise, eveything else is great.
