I'd like to run the micro 98 off the doc but I can't get the webplayer to recognize my 3,5" drive so I can transfer the doc image. Any help is appreciated.

I've got the webplayer opened up, I have a 44 pin to 40 pin adapter and a 3.5" drive hooked up. The drive has the win98 micro image and the dos utilities. It's a single partition and I made the partition primary.
I went into the bios and enabled the primary IDE (also tried enabling seconday and "both" to no avail). I set the bios option for dos. I have the primary master set to "auto". I also tried the other options like "user" to no avail. I have the the webplayer booting up to where it shows the config info but it keeps saying no hard drive detected in the config listing. It eventually goes to a screen with a bunch of characters that fill the screen then finally goes to the virgin screen after about 2 minutes.

I have a 3.5" drive hooked up to the ide slot with the 44/40 adapter. The adapter has a power cable which I have hooked up to a power supply. I have also hooked up the 3.5" drive to a power supply as well. Is my problem an incorrect bios setting or does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? What bios settings need to be changed to get a 3.5" drive detected and do I have the 3.5" drive hooked up correctly?

Thanks.

Check how you have the cable plugged into the webplayer..pin 1 is the pin most to the right..AWAY from the laptop screen...if you enabled the ide adaptor in bios and have the cable hooked up right it should detect it...

I seem to recall one of our users posting that you need to jumper the hard drive to cable select instead of making it the master in order for it and the DOC to be seen at the same time. I can't tell you for sure though as my 44-pin cable hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the ideas. I think the adpater I just bought may be bad. On the bottom part of the adapter there is a burnt-looking discoloration. I'm going to return it an get another one and see what happens.

The burnt discoloration might be from where you shorted your adaptor. Do not connect power to the power cord hanging off the adaptor. This is for power to the 2.5" HD from the system board. Since you are using the adaptor in the reverse, the power from this cord is unneeded. Let it hang free.
