validity of coop
anyone else in the co-op concerned that this is valid

Hey; I am just wonderign if anyone else in the co-op is concerned that this sin't a case of us being swindeled out of our money. I would love to get ahold of a webplayer for so cheap but I cannot afford to get burned.

You know. Sometimes things are too good to be true, (although getting 45gb drives and a usb zip for 130$ from staples worked fine)

Sincerely,
Tom A.

I too question the validity of the co-op. I sent an email to schlach@hotmail.com requesting a telephone number so that I could speak with him prior to ordering. Needless to say, I have not recieved a reply (yet).

Not to say that this is not legit but there is no way of knowing for sure. How can we find out? Someone could make alot of money off of us (58 units @ $110.00 each w/shipping = $6380.00).

I already got one from Ebay ($162.50 including shipping). I have to say that they are pretty slick.

How did you get that kind of deal from Staples?

"Is schlach's paypal account verified?"

I can answer this one: Yes, I just confirmed that Schlach@hotmail.com is a verified, premier account holder. This status does afford all of us some protection against fraud. (Read the PayPal Q&A on their site.) That does encourage me greatly and confirms the feeling I've had all along that this gentleman is not only bright but also reputable. Nevertheless, I think it might be useful for Schlach to provide something additional for those who are hesitant -- and I'm not sure what that should be... a confirmation phone number where we can call if we would like to put a voice with the hundred dollar bills, etc. Obviously this would necessitate Schlach becoming even more charitable with his time. Perhaps a different suggestion along this line is needed. I'd also suggest that Schlach extend the order deadline by at least 4 or 5 days so that these issues can be settled quickly. I'd guess that many people are hesitating to order based upon these kinds of feelings, so stretching it out just a few more days in order to accomodate the doubters would be very useful.

I've responded to jeepguy and Tom A's requests for a phone number, (Jesus you guys could give me the benefit of the doubt-- I only read email when I'm in the office, so Friday night / Saturday is typically quiet from me) but that's *really* unfeasible when you start talking about 40 to 70 people, especially on the timeline we've got. I'll let you guys in on a little secret: Boundless is not going to hold their breath waiting for us to get our act together. We've got a connection there as long as there are iBrow units to be moved. Once they're gone, we're out of luck. I might be able to convince Gardener that I'm firm on x units (Monday), but I need a week to collect payments from everyone, so *please* don't sell them before hand, but like I said that's a might. We'll see.

Isaac@pobox.com has found my "real" email address at cornell, jake.schlachter@CORNHELL.edu (slightly misstyped). I've been able to keep that address spam-free for several years and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

The way I'm thinking about Randy's idea for an extra four or five days, if people want to place an order, then they should do it by the time I talk to Gardener on Monday. The main reason I want them to *commit* is so *I* don't get screwed. Then they've got several more days to actually pay me for the units they order. Since I'm a real person I feel confident in my ability to convince them of my status as such, so they've got peace of mind, their order has already been placed, and now they're ready to pay, and no one gets screwed. Everyone's happy.

So now that I'm fairly confident about you guys (or will be, once we've spoken on the phone), do you think this conversation should be moved to the egroups forum, or we should just leave it here? Will it allay others' fears, or fan them?

Ok, I'm completely convinced of Jake's authenticity now. Given the little bit of data he provided in the previous post, I managed to acquire quite a bit of information, including even his parent's phone number in Ohio. To save Jake a bit of heartache and trouble, I won't post all of that here, LOL. In any event, I've confirmed quite a bit of information, and I feel very secure in dealing with this individual. Jake, thanks for your help in acquiring these units! I hope you aren't offended by everyone's due diligence.

I also thank you for the information... You must understand our concerns; as electronic fraud does run rampant these days.
