USB Flakiness Problem Thoughts

I've noticed a consistency to the posts pertaining to USB ethernet and other USB devices. It seems that the webplayer doesn't initialize the USB ports properly at startup. Several users have complained about "flakiness" with various USB Ethernet adaptors and I saw one post about a trackball. It seems that the workaround is to unplug/replug the connector in and let windows find the drivers again after restarting. I'm waiting for my laptop drive and USB ethnet adaptor for my webplayer, so if someone wants to check me on this, be my guest. I'm hoping someone will have a better answer to this :)

No, I do that and sometimes it works sometimes not.

Unplugging the adaptor, then plugging it right back into the same USB slot seems to work okay(no restarting/driver removal necessary). It's somewhat obnoxious, but doable while I'm looking for real solutions. The hub sees the adaptor just fine in all cases, it's just a question of whether or not it loads properly and actually functions.

The USB definitely has some issues. If I find anything, I'll post it.

It's highly unlikely, but maybe there is a BIOS update somewhere out there for this board?

Perhaps the problem is power. I know what the WP has a very small power supply, and those with internal hard drives are probably taking up quite a bit of this. Since the drive is spinning up on boot, there may just not be enough left for the USB Ethernet, which can require quite a bit...

Try getting a self-powered hub and hooking the USB Ethernet adapter off of that. This will at least make sure that it's getting all the power it needs!
