I was setting up the webplayer with new hd and such and somewhere along the way it seems my video got messed up. Now lower half of screen is darker then rest. I can only assume a screw got on the onboard video area and shorted out. Anyone with a web player without or with broken screen let me know. I hate to have to buy another one, just too expensive. check that the cable to lcd is secure, you might have yanked it loose.

Thanks, but seems all is fine in cable area. Will have to watch for another one cheap and keep this one for parts I guess, unless I can find a board for cheap.

I am having the same sort of problem. I had Windows 98 SE on my WP. Then I took my machine apart and installed Windows ME. Everything was running perfectly while the machine was apart. I carefully put it all back together again and now the lower half of my screen is white and fuzzy. I checked the cables and the connectors and all are ok, I tried re-instaliing the video drivers and still no change. Is there any solution besides buying another WebPlayer?

I ended up getting another player. seems that one of the chips are bad, there's one on top and one on bottom. Using a small screwdriver I was able to create a simular problem with the top of the screen by shorting out a few pins on one of the chips. So I came to the assumption that the chip must of fried some how. After getting another player I tried the other cables and memory and all I could think to try and the same result. So I guess it'll be spare parts for now.

Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe my hard drive touched the chip on the underside and did some damage. I'll have to take a look.

After I replied I was thinking the same thing. It's the only thing I can think might of shorted out the chip. I even tried to short out the other one to see if I could and I couldn't, I figured MB was fried anyway, so who knows, maybe just a bad chip. I have the HD on top of the MB in new player with a thin piece of plastic MB packaging taped to bottom. Also I have out the modem since I use DSL and all seems to work fine.

Upon further investigation:
I know that I might have fried the lower video chip but I started my machine and booted into WinME. I can see the icons so I clicked on MusicMatch Jukebox (my mp3 program of choice). When the program started I got an error message saying something to the effect that another program is already using the sound card.

The wires and connectors all look ok so I wonder if there really is a short circuit affecting my screen or if WinME is doing something funky. I might try re-installing WinME to see if that solves the problem. It can't hurt. Any other ideas on where to look next or is it really hopeless?

I'm using win98 and tried format and reinstall. It didn't work. I figured it will be worth having the extra case and memory and especially the monitor for a spare,if for some reason it went out I would be forced to buy another player and who knows if that happens you will be able to find one. I'm hoping that one day I'll find one cheap enough to offset the cost so it won't seem to be as big a loss.

Is there any way to use the monitor and keyboard with a regular desktop pc? That way it wouldn't be a total loss.

Any of you with a toasted webplayer interested in parting with your monitor cable? I have a depressed webplayer over here that is perfectly healthy, barring a broken monitor cable. I could probably dig up some spare periphera if you were interested in some sort of trade...

Let me know if you're interested.

I might have one for you. I'm just waiting for my new Webplayer to arrive. It should be here today. I'll test the old screen and if all is working then we can arrange something.

Hey Baxterzine (and everyone else),

I started a new thread regarding the wireless keyboard but I'll continue
my comments here since this thread has become sort of the spare parts graveyard.

I contacted Evation ( http://www.evation.com/irman/index.html )
They said that their infrared receiver should work on a desktop PC
with the Webplayer keyboard. They have a special keyboard plug-in
that is not listed on their website.

I ordered one from their website and I should have it sometime next week.
I'll let you know more once it's installed.
