I recieved my WebPlayer a few days ago, but have spent the last few weeks reading up. I don't however recall seeing any info on how to create a IMG file. Is there a Step by Step available, or is it easier than that ??

By The way, the WebPlayer works GREAT with the Win98 Doc !!!

Get the DOC utilities

and type "getmimg myimage.img" and it will backup your entire doc to an image file..

Anyone out there have a clue...??

I'd like to get info on how this was acheived also. The embed98.img is not good for my needs. I installed it on my webplayer and found that Netzero just wouldn't work. As I don't need USB, it'd make a lot more sense for me to have Windows 95 and Opera and nothing else on my webplayer - maybe even using the remainder of the DOC as virtual memory.

Trouble is, I've no idea how to get all this to fit onto the 48 meg doc or how disk compression works. Was the original embed98.img set up on another box and then transferred to the doc? If not, how was the doc prepared prior to installation?

Cheers. Happy hols.

I don't know for a fact, but I suspect he (famewolf) set up his WebPlayer to boot from a HD. Then he used the Window98Micro program to build a Micro 98 that would fit on the DOC. You would need to go to the Win98Lite/Micro website (don't have the URL handy, but I'll find it if necessary) and get their program. I don't have any experience on it. Then use the HD, a Windows disc and a compressed (drivespace) DOC to be able to DIY. I, unfortunately, do not have one of the 48 meg DOCs, mine is only 16, so I cannot give you a step by step, or gladly would. If you post questions, I'll do my best to help you out, however. I think, that since no one is going to be breathing down our necks for tampering with these, we might as well make 'em do whatever we can. I've gotten lots of help with my problems and want to contribute back as much as I can.

Basically your steps would be:
Have a laptop HD booting the Webplayer.
Have it contain all the source files (installers for 98, Opera, etc..., and the 98lite program).
Use drivespace to compress the DOC, giving you a bit more breathing room, make sure it's bootable (DOC utility, program from M-Sys).
Use 98lite to install what you need to the DOC (can't really help you on this one...others should be able to, however).
Install whatever else you plan on using.

98lite is available for download from http://www.98lite.net (.com is a porno site) - the full version is out there too if you look.

So if I have everything I need on the hd and can see the hd via bios changes....how do I setup drivespace? Can this be done from DOS. I guess I should start reading up about this.

Happy Holidays!

DriveSpace is accesible from Start Menu->Program Files->Accessories->System Tools->DriveSpace. 98 provides pretty good explanations for it. Should be easy to do and/or undo. You can boot to 98 from the HD right?
