Yes, there is a way to write protect your DOC. You can get the utility from M-Systems. You can find the utility in the zip file using the following link:

The name of the utility is "dprotect.exe." M-Systems does have an app note for the program, but I wasn't able to find it. So, here's how you use the program...
DPROTECT Drive: /{ ON | OFF } [/PASSWORD=password]
