Making DOC read only?
How can I make the DOC read only?

I would like to make my webplayer an MP3 player for the car using a USB hard drive as portable storage and the Lite image as the OS on the DOC.

How can I make the DOC image read only so that I can just turn the webplayer off without having to worry about seeing Scan Disk run each time that it reboots?

Thanks in advance.

You can diable scandisk after incomplete shutdown in MSCONFIG.

That was a quick reply, thanks. But I figure that it would be better if each time the player boots, it is 100% problem free. I think that not running Scan Disk each time after an incomplete shut down could lead to future perfomance problems. Plus it might shorten the life of the DOC.

I think what you really have to concern yourself with first is a supply of power. You need to figure out how you are going to supply your webplayer with the correct voltage.

I wish you luck, and hope you post your findings..

Yes that is true. That is why I am going to use a power inverter.

Yes, there is a way to write protect your DOC. You can get the utility from M-Systems. You can find the utility in the zip file using the following link:

http://www.m-sys.com/download.asp?driver=DOC-DOSver4.2.zip

The name of the utility is "dprotect.exe." M-Systems does have an app note for the program, but I wasn't able to find it. So, here's how you use the program...

DPROTECT Drive: /{ ON | OFF } [/PASSWORD=password]

Hope this helps. Have fun with the mp3 webplayer.

P.S. By downloading the file, you have agreed to their software license.

Sorry, I should have tried the link before I submitted the reply. Here is a link that I believe should work...

http://www.m-sys.com/license.asp?driver=DOC-DOSver4.2.zip&ver=4.2

You now have to give them some info(not really), but I guess that's the price we have to pay for free software.
