NetGear EA101c USb Ethernet Adapter
Bad batch of adapters

Hi all!

Got my HD and USB Ethernet adapter off EBAY. Made the mistake of buying a drive ONE MILLIMETER TOO HIGH! You should definitely go with 11mm and down. Anyway, this post concerns the Netgear (from Nortel) brand of adapters. If any of you have one of these and have had problems with it, check the serial number. It should start with EA11....If it has a 'B' after EA11, it may be from a bad batch. A certain chip heats up after just a few minutes of use and will knock out the connection. Netgear has 24/7 tech support and the tech I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. They're sending me a new one(yay!) even though I purchased it from EBAY. Tech support number is 1-888-NETGEAR. Besides the fact that it kept dying, it seemed to work (no problems with Windows recognizing, etc.). After I get the replacement, I'll post again whether or not it works.

WOW! I'm in love with NetGear! A week before Christmas and they manage to get the replacement adapter to me in under 48 hours. And I mean from the time I hung up the phone with tech support till I got home from work and found the package waiting at my door. Anyway, looks like the chip was my problem. The replacement hasn't given any hint of downtime or other problems. I'm listening to Neil Young's Harvest Moon being broadcast (well not broadcst..."fileshared") from my big machine downstairs with no problems right now.

p.s. Does anyone need a 12mm 2.5" 1.3 gig drive? I'll trade/pay the difference for an 11mm or less, and pay the shipping for both.

Thanks for the post. I was having the same problem with my Netgear USB ethernet adapter (which has a 'B' in the S/N) and they are sending me a new one!
