Help
I am trying to install a 4 Gig HD, but I cannot get it to boot. I keep getting no boot device. I have tried 4 drives.
A 170 meg it booted fine and allowed me to install the Win98lite img on the DOC.
A 770 meg drive booted fine an allowed me to install Win98.
A 2.9 Gig would not boot
A 4 Gig would not boot
All four drives worked on a I-Opener I have.
I could see all of the files on all 4 drives if I set the drives as a slave and booted to the DOC with.
I have tried the drives in with and without Large Files enabled no difference.
I checked the BIOS and the drive configuration is correct.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem
Thanks

Post exactly what settings you are using in your BIOS, and I'll see what I can do....

I don't remember the exact setting in the BIOS, but it's something like "Hard Disk Type". Change it from OTHER to DOS.

Thanks Jayfive
You were right.
It was under Advanced Settings
Large Disk Acess Mode
I changed it form Other to DOS
The drive came right up

Thanks to all

It would be really helpful if someone that has a working unit with harddrive would post all of the correct bios settings, not just the ones that should have been changed from default. Also, if anyone knows what settings to change to add a USB floppy, that would help. Any change to the bios floppy setting generates an error message, and there does not seem to be any reference in bios to the usb ports.

I bought a 6.4 gig Toshiba Super slimline 2.5 HD off ebay, but I cannot get any bios to recognize it. The WP doesnt, and my two desktops don't. ( I bought all the adapters and the 44 pin cable.) I honestly can't tell if the thing is spinning up. The newest desktop bios is 12/99 and the WP is 2/00. Is the drive "too new" for them? Or is she teats up? Or does this drive go into a sled inside a laptop? Kinda defeats the gee-whizzness of an 8.5mm height. Anyway, I am just typing for fun now, but just maybe, someone out there has this drive also. It is a Toshiba MK6411MAT(HDD2143).
A little background? OK. I loaded the auto install package from ihacked, (but I would like to throw out a collective "Thank you" to all of you who contributed to it. That works great!!) Now I want to permanently add a 2.5 drive. Got the cable, but no go on bios recognition. So, here I sit, broken-hearted...ahem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Just a suggestion, but I doubt that the drive is too new for the bios... Esp. since it's only 6.4GB. More than likely, a cable/adapter/perhaps even the drive itself is bad/damaged/otherwise dead. I'd try replacing the cables/adapter first, since _none_ of the machines will detect it. If that doesn't help, I'd say the drive is dead. :(

Thanks Carnejcb,

I also think it is a dead drive, but hate to admit it since I will now have to go through the ordeal of trying to send it in for warranty repair. The adapter probably works since I loaded the doc with it.
I am going to ask the guy I bought it from on ebay, but since he said in the description that it is "under warranty, so no returns to him", It probably was bad to begin with.

Thanks again
