OK - GRR!

Newly acquired Webplayer, ebay, used. Arrived in good shape.

I plug it in and see the "Preparing for the Internet" message, then here a click, and the screen goes blank.

If I hold it up to a light, I can see (difficulty) that the display is still powered. It seems like the backlight is out.

control-music doesn't seem to make a diffrence, but pressing the funciton key produces a loud beep.

Yes, I checked the brightness and contrast controls, to no avail.

power button cycles (from green to amber) don't make any difference. I need to unplug and plug back in to get the display to come on and blink off again?

Anyone have any ideas?

Update:

I poked around the LCD. There is a small board above it, that has a pink wire running out of it to the panel. From experience, this probably feeds the backlight.

Well, I thought I'd sleep on it, and put the unit back together.

One more power up, and what do you know.... it works again.

Sort of... now I have the "stuck on the preparing for the Internet" screen problem.

I don't think I did anything special... I think I have a flakey/bad doc and/or bios.

DOC bad, I believe.

DANG!
