I've modified three WebPlayers to use laptop harddrives and, in my opinion, people should take the extra time to mount the drive 'under' the motherboard instead of laying it on top and 'squeezing the case down. It worked on both of mine, but I just crashed a nice 3GB drive that I had absolutely everything working perfectly on. I think one of my other 2.5 drives may have become damaged too (bought it used and the damage could have been preexisting). Just my 2 cents. AND, I've run 98 off the DOC and, if you can fit everythign you want on there, it really is a slick way to go. I have yet to create an image for the non-techie user that I am really happy with however (netzero, some simple games, Opera with Java, simple e-mail client).
