Just wondering if anyone has converted the Mail LED to be a HDD activity LED? I have read many different Items in the I-Opener catagory where people have connected pin 39 from the HDD to a resister(i think) and then to the LED. 5V has been talked about in that catagory also.
-- BTW Incase some of you may not know, when the modem is inuse(doesn't matter which OS, I have WIN98 and BSD, both work) the Telephone(middle LED) turns on until hang-up. Really nice if you ask me!

Found it! I'm currently in the middle of pulling apart my WP for this. If you want to modify your MAIL LED to work with you Hard Drive you need to do this:
First cable (from pin 39 IDE) to Cathode.
Other Cable (from pin 41) to 220ohm resister to Anode. Not sure of cable colors till I open it fully.
** It is important to get this correct, I tried it on another LED on reverse just to see what would happen, it blew. But I'm sure it could be easily fixed at the local Rat Shack.

I used a standard HD LED one and even the middle one from mail and I get a little light but not very much, what do I need to do to brighten the LED ??? I am getting the LED to light up on disk activity but only very dim'lee (Dim'Lee ???)

I never took any formal training in electronics, What I know, I have learned as a hobby, such as being able to identify a 220k resister in a loose assortment that are in the bottom of my electronic junk box.
I was using a 220k resister not a 220...

I figured something like that might have happened. I think you may have been the only one to do this hack other than me. Or else I worded it perfectly so there were no probs. eh.
