Adding vent holes over processor?
How to get an attractive, even array of ventilation holes?

I'm planning to use the Dremel to add a grid of exhaust holes for cooling, maybe 10x10 2mm holes at 5mm spacing. An attractive appearance is important to me.
Any tips for how to get a nice, evenly spaced grid?

Anyone have a parts webplayer and want to sell the case so when I screw up I can start over?

I drilled holes in mine and it now lets out all the heat. It didn't come out the prettiest as I made the holes big, but it does the job. I have a spare case so I will be trying to use smaller holes to make it nicer. I seems to work well though and I leave it on almost all the time now. I did remove the heatsinc and put a fan on the cpu for more cooling.
got fan here:

How big is the area in question? If you have some ugly drill holes and want to pretty up your case, try covering it with one of those wire/mesh tweeter speaker covers used for external mounted car speakers. That might do the trick.

That's an excellent idea.

Baxterzine, where did you connect the fan on the motherboard? There were several suggestions on other threads.

I cut a big rectanuglar hole above the heatsink in my WebPlayer but it still cooks. I really need to add a fan.
I am running WindowsME and have the LinkSys USB network card.

I play mp3s over the network from my desktop PC. I find that the network card cuts out after a few songs because the cpu gets blazing hot. It heats up that whole area of the motherboard where the USB connectors are and then the USB NIC just stops working.

I find that if I leave the top cover off of the unit it plays a lot better because the heat has room to dissipate.

I wired the fan to the power button where it connects to the mb. Dont know the exact wires now would have to open and look. I just poped the wires from the plug and then wrapped the fan wires around it and popped them back in was no problem. the fan I got was very small and you can get a bigger one I think for a few bucks more, I think its the lasagna fan or something, it just has to be 5v.

Depending on what the power demands of the fan, you could use the KB Conn to power it. Makes a nice, clean installation as well. I soldered in four pins to the KB Conn connector in an attempt to get a ps2 keyboard connector. But, after that attempt failed, I used the 5v VCC from it to power a 3dfx cooler that works nicely on the Cyrix chip. The pin closest to the screw hole is Ground, the one furthest away is Vcc. Works great in mine. I added a plastic CD Audio-in connector from an old sound card to the motherboard to clean it up even more. I haven't updated the site in a while, but pics are there of the connector, before I added the fan.
