I bought a usb to parallel printer cable (i/o flex)and tried to print from my canon bjc250 printer and all I get is a sring of odd symbols and numbers and endless printing, a few lines per page. I have tried both usb ports and two different printers (same result)and have installed the drivers that come with the cable. Would appreciate any ideas about what I am doing wrong.

I haven't used one of these things yet so I won't be much help, but I thought I'd mention that if you have another USB capable computer around you should test it out there. Then you know whether the problem's related to your webplayer or if it's something with the adaptor (or potentially the printers though, you've already tried two).

I spoke with one the design engineer for the Webplayer today. He told me that machine was never designed to run Windows operating systems and that the USB controller they used is flakey at best. They had planned to upgrade the bios before supporting high drain devices via USB. This never happened. He told me the best thing to do is run the oldest version of windows possible....95...

win95? agh! oh well, for me that means i've got to live with plugging and unplugging the usb for now (i'm using the acer warplink to talk to the pc). what did that design engineer think of all the tinkering with the webplayer?

He told me that the hardware itself can run on the Windows platform, but by adding a hard drive and usb components it is just much more than they ever designed it for. I know the Win95 SR2 does support USB, but its flakey as hell so you're really not doing yourself a favor by downgrading. I think Win98SE might be the overall best choice of OSs at this point.
