What about just simply hacking the browser as is?

I just got one and have set it up to use my own ISP and it works fine. I was thinking, what about just tweaking the factory browser? I mean, is there anybody out there who's gotten rid of the ads and/or made the default buttons etc. point at the things WE would like them to point to? Is there any way to get into the browser init files?? Anybody?

I know I can set it up as a w98 machine, either with or without a HD, but I think it would be cool to see what can be done with it as is.

Good luck,I have been looking for a way to do that from the start but no luck.It looks like
I will be forced to do the Win'98 thing now
that I can't even get that home page that I hated for so long either now.

Well does anybody know of a file-management utility that could be run on my webplayer while online, maybe one written in java? If there were only some way to look at (and edit) the files on my DOC, then we'd be able tweak the various settings in the browser--at least that's what I'm thinking.

Or what about putting the webplayer online, then getting into those files from a remote computer, through the internet? Anybody know if that's possible? I have heard of those evil hackers <grin> who use programs to look at and change files on other people's computers when they're online, especially when they are using a cable modem. Maybe we could do something like that to get in and alter the files on our webplayers...

Anybody out there tried anything like this?

I don't know what version it is or how the OS is configured...but I thought I remember someone saying that the OS on the original virgin setup was QNX. I have been to their site and one of the things they boast about is being able to do real-time OS updates. I am not sure if this is the OS that would allow that - but you may be able to find out at http://www.qnx.com

let us know if you make any progress - I have another WP here at the house that has not been touched.
