Webplayer memory

how much memory is dependant on which geode chip we have.. (I don't even have mine yet)
GX1 supports 16, 64, 128, and 256 Mbit sdram chips (which means that the chipset will recognize any current memory configuration (as of 2/22/2001))

GXLV supports 16, 64 Mbit sdram chips (you would need 8 chips on a sodimm for 64MB and 16 for 128MB)

GXM is the same as GXLV..

I am not sure how to identify which chip we have, though obviously, we want the GX1

My webplayer has GXLV-200 and I think most of them do.
There's some one who tried to put in a 128Mbyte SO-DIMM but the extended memory gets stuck at 60M
and the rest seems to be used for cache.

Anyone have other experiences?

There's 64MB by default yes? count the number of chips on the sodimm (both sides) there should be 8 not 4.. then try to find a 64MB sodimm with 4 chips and try that.

If the 64MB with 4 chips works, then it is at least capable of recognizing 128Mbit memory, and we can use the same 128MB ram that the IOpeners need.

Otherwise, we're going to be stuck trying to find a 128MB sodimm with 16 chips on it.

this may be encouraging: the 128MB sodimm from circuit city 128MBLT100 works perfectly in my Virgin. it has on it 8 chips total (both sides). previously this sodimm was in my IOpener and worked perfectly there also.

Questions:
Can you confirm you have about 124Mb free for use of the OS?
Which OS do you use and which utility says how much free memory you have?
Can you tell us any more details about the SODIMM that you use?

The Webplayer works with 128Mbit chips, but will not work with 256Mbit chips

any memory that works in an IO will work in the webplayer.

64MB - 4chips
128MB - 8 chips
256MB - 16 chips
512MB - keep dreaming

I have two 64Mb SO-DIMMS and one 128Mb SO-DIMM.
All have 8 chips and they all work.
Strange thing: config screen and dos don't report more than 64Mb but win98 reports and uses all memory.

the number of chips listed is the minimum number of chips..

my 4 chip 128MB sdrams only reports 60MB of memory.. I didn't let it go all the way to windows, so maybe I'll give that a try and see if it comes up with anything..

On a further note, I read somewhere that you can stack memory, allowing all pins but the chip selects to contact the chips underneath, and tie off the chipselects to the remaining unused ones..

for those desperate for 256, this may be the way to go...

128MB SODIMM PC100 ONLY $35

Will this work in the WP? I run WinME in mine. If so I'll upgrade today.

Did anyone verify that the 128MB sodimm that aadam12 reported @ $35.00 works in the webplayer? It now lists at $22.00 at that link!

What about the 256mb 16 chip sodimm mentioned by "Programmer" does it really work and if so where is it available?

Thanks,

Jim

I have had installed three different modules:
* the original webplayer module 64Mb PC-100 with Apacer chips
* another 64Mb PC-100 module with hyundai chips originally installed in my Sony laptop
* a 128Mb PC-100 module with Winbond chips I bought for my laptop.

I have tried this a while ago.
It all works, but I do recall I had different memory countings depending on the OS and utilities used.
So I'm not sure it actually works right.
I should to this again perhaps, maybe tomorrow already.
I didn't write a story about it then, but the pictures of the modules are online:
