Hi gang,

*Just* got my Wp, after having it on order since, oh, last October! Anyway, a few questions:

(1) I see that all flavors of Windows runs on this, but I was thinking more along the lines of BeOS or QNX RTOS, anyone have that running?

(2) I see the BIOS password was broken. I also noticed a number/password combo that was avail. as well. I am under the impression that the second combo gets you into the WP default ISP settings..is this correct? I also presume that if that IS correct, then I could get into there and use my own ISP settings, and then I woulnd't have to hack/open my WP...is THIS correct?

(3) Why are there so many number combos for the second set? Does the WP automatically generate new codes each time you try to get in there to change stuff? Seems to me once you set stuff up right, you wouldn't really need to get in there much...so what am I missing?

(4) What about WinNT on this beast?

(5) Was the lifespan of the Disk-On-Chip ever decided? I see a number of DOC files so a hard drive isn't needed..but does using a DOC setup give you any advantage over using a real hard drive?

(6) Anything else you feel I should know, please do so.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Digger,

1) Someone tried BeOS but there are no drivers for the WP. Not sure about QNX. Don't know if anyone has played around with that.

2) BIOS password is schwasck not sure about the numbers as I never came across that situation but YES you can reprogram it to use your own ISP.

3) See answer 2

4) If you run WinNT the you will have NO USB! Win2K might work but again you might not find the correct drivers. Also, this is only a 200Mhz processor with 64MB RAM can you say S-L-O-O-O-O-O-O-W. Stick with Win98SE or WinME.

5) I've reformatted my DOC quite a few times while playing around with the setup and it still works fine. Just be VERY CAREFUL if you remove the DOC. It has very delicate pins and make sure you put it back in the same direction as you took it out otherwise...kablooey!

6) I've run mine with both WinME and Win98SE on a hard drive. I've run the old Famewolf DOC image and now I run 98 micro on the DOC with IE5.5 - Each of these configurations works fine.

The only MAJOR problem that we are ALL experiencing is with the USB cutting out for no reason. We're still investigating that one. Others are looking into mini-pci cards instead of USB for networking purposes.

You may also want to install a CPU fan as that little bugger gets pretty damn hot!

Enjoy,
aadam12
