Does anyone have one of the new WebPlayers direct from Boundless? In their email to the co-op, they stated the new DOC image was linux based, and I thought if someone had purchased one of these units, I would love to try that new OS rather than Win98 LITE just to see how it went. If you have one of these new units, could you make a backup of the existing DOC and upload it somewhere for us all to try?
Is it just me ? When I try the link above (the one with generic.zip) I either get an error or my browser freezes...does someone have the same problem ? Is that the correct link ?
I would really like to try the linux doc image !
David
I just tried it and it works fine for me. I'm using Windows 98 SE and IE 5.5 to download. Otherwise you could use an actual FTP client and grab it that way. One tip is to make sure you have FTP set up properly in your browser. In IE, use the Tools pull-down menu and select Internet Options. In the Internet Options window, click on the Advanced tab and make sure you have a checkmark in front of "Enable folder view for FTP sites." (or something similar, depending on what version of IE you have). Can you bum me a .sig?
Thanks for the advice....I think it was actually my corporate firewall...I tried it at home and it worked first try. I plan to check this image out on my other WP tonight - I will post my experiences later (Not sure how valuable they will be though sing I am new at Linux)
Hmmm - this image is very similar in behavior to the original image that the WP was shipped with when I signed up with the service - however, the first thing you see is a screen to configure your ISP... I did not like the performance of the original image so I ditched this one and re-imaged my second WP with the 98 lite image....If anyone comes up with a LINUX image for the WP I would love to get my hands on it!
Hi,
I have a rough linux doc image available, it boots and suits my purposes for the time being. It's 10MB and on my hompage behind a 33.6kb/s permanent modem connection.
If someone wants to download it and mirror it, be my guest.
Do try to avoid downloading it in our office hours - it might take a while... (8am-5pm GMT+10)
See my homepage at http://www.ccimackay.com/~dgriffith for what it contains.
Keep an eye out on the Virgin-linux sourceforge page - we're busy developing a "proper" distro for it.
