The webplayer is capable of producing a very clean sound output with almost no audible noise. The MediaGX sound processor is actually quite amazing for its simplistic design.
Here you go guys, this is a VERY simple hardware mod to get high quality sound from your webplayer without your modem installed. Its extremely simple, all you need is a plastic jumper.
Simple Steps:
Remove cover from top of motherboard
Remove modem (3 screws, modem pulls off)
At this point your sound output will be noisy, due to the modem's sound output line being noisy because its no longer
connected to the modem.
Looking at the webplayer (screen in front of you), place a jumper on the pins located closest to you on the right. It is drawn below (to the best of my ability). This will clear up the awful noise produced when the modem isnt in the webplayer. However if you plan on keeping the modem in, you will not need this modification, but it still sounds better than if the modem is installed.

Another simple sound cleanup, with an inverter in a car setup, simply ground the chassis to webplayer at the closest point where the line-out connection is sent to (an amplifier, or system deck). This will clean up the inverter humming, and any internal noise producted from the webplayer by bringing its ground down to your car's ground. If you are getting a ground loop feedback (whining from the alternator, etc), then try grounding the unit elsewhere, however with a little experimenting, and the mod above, your webplayer should sound as a decent quality deck with little to no noise output.
