I just got my first WP a week ago and can see that it should make a great mp3 player for my stereo system (my CD player is dieing and I don't really want to buy a new one.) I have noticed the CPU gets really hot when playing mp3s and the WP will crash when the case is assembled. I will probably put some better venting in to fix this problem (I would like to stay away from fans.) My main concern now is the APM functionality. I would like to be able to suspend or standby the system when not in use.
I have noticed that some people are able to use the APM features of the WP and some are not. If I turn on or off the APM in the bios, press and hold the 'power' button, or use the suspend feature on the Start menu, the system seems to go into power save (the LED turns orange and the screen backlight turns off.) But when I touch a key, move the trackball, or press the button again, the LED turns green and the screen stays turned off. At that point I can use the keys for a restart (alt-f4, then alt-r then enter) and get the system to reboot. So I think it is coming out of the power save, just not turning on the backlight.
I was wondering, is this due to the win98lite installation? I have tried both the image with the opera browser and the image with IE on my DOC. I have not yet tried a full 98, 98SE or ME install on a hard drive. Who has APM working on a normal windows installation with a hard drive in the WP and who has it working with an image on the DOC? Anyone have any pointers on how to get the backlight to turn on?
I have the monitor set as a laptop 800x600 display. In the monitor properties, it is flagged as energy star compliant, and the 'reset display on suspend/resume' is turned on. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help,
