I installed a usb dwl-120 802.11b on the webplayer. I use the dwl-650 pcmcia version on the rest of my network. All the 650's talk to each other fine (win2k win98 and winME) The 120 is searching (the link light is winking but not steady) but never connects. I have not been able to make the 120-650 combo work with any other computer either.

All are set to ad-hoc, same ESSID and same channel, no WEP. I have tried both the config tool and going to the driver itself and doing the setup there.

DLINK is pretty useless as far as customer support

Anyone ever get these 2 to communicate or is one from mars the other from venus?

The webplayer is running a clean install of ME with no question marks

Thanks

I too have the Dlink WDL-120 on my webplayer. I have a DWL-1000 as the base station and it works fine. I have another DWL-120 on my iopener and a DWL-650 for a laptop.

I have heard that Dlink is not so great in peer to peer, and while I find the DWL-1000 great (it has both an internal and external antenna and pretty good reception) the external antenna is a bit flimsy.

My webplayer is using the IE doc image, no hard drive, and the latest DWL drivers from the Dlink web site.

I am still amazed that to get this set up, all I had to do was open a little door, remove the DOC, flash it in my Websurfer, and put it back.

Anyway, did you load the configuration utility... while it comes up automatically with the 650 you have to manually launch it with the 120, as I am sure you know, but usually I find it tells me what is going on as I find the LED pretty uninformative.

I used the setup utility. When I execute it the antenna on the icon in the sys tray does the boogaloo for a few seconds and then the little computer turns yellow. If there is no connection the computer turns red, so I am not quite sure what yellow means. Maybe I'm half connected.

I have tried the latest drivers also. Not sure it's worth buying a $300 access point to get a 50 buck 'puter on the network. Thanks for the reply. Are there any other driver sets from other USB wireless NIC's that would work?
