Finally got just about everything working. Got the USB hooked up and got on my lan. All of a sudden it locked up. (Win98 SE) Now on bootup it splashes the windows screen and goes to blue screen.....
Any ideas?

Running from a hard drive or the DOC? I think the blue screen might be scandisk running, sometimes it doesn't display correctly on webplayer. How long did you let it sit at the blue screen?

Running a 20GB IBM drive, haven't touched the DOC yet. It sat bluescreen for about 10 minutes before I pulled the drive. Must be a corrupt display driver. The Win98 splash screen is fine then BLUE.
TIA

Ruh ro.... This might be bad. I removed the 20 gig and tried to get it to boot off of the DOC. I got the "preparing for the internet" logo screen, the progress bar came up and it made it about 15% and stopped.

It gets better. If you disable the IDE controller it boots all the way to the sign in screen for Virgin. But the stand-by button doesn't work any more. This is getting interesting...

OK... I feel like I'm talking to myself. What's new. I figured out that by re-enabling the IDE and disabling the USB and reinstalling the HDD the webplayer boots fine. On a re-boot I re-enabled USB and it booted fine again. Sure thought I was going to have to re-sys the drive. the USB came active and works great with my new D-Link USB hub/ethernet adapter. Seems to work fine in the unpowered mode. then I got brave. I plugged in my new optical wheel mouse and loaded the driver over the network. It would only accept the winNT driver but it seemss to be working fine. The WP is burning in now (not literally this time)

Well, I'm glad you got it working, sounds like an odd situation.

Lucubrate, you were right... the blue screen is the scan disk running. You cant "esc" out of it though. With 20GB you just have to wait a while until it's finished. PATIENCE (I hear it's a virtue).

What's really weird though is leaving either the usb mouse or the usb hub/ethernet adapter connected locks it up. I'm going to try using the external power for the hub next. Maybe it's pulling the USB ports too far down trying to power an external device. The power supply is 5 volts @ 5 amps. Should be enough. Hmmmmmmmmm

The blue screen is Scandisk. To have the text display, DISABLE the SILENT BOOT option in the BIOS. This is located on the MAIN BIOS page under the BOOT OPTIONS selection.
