One more thing, this is a New webplayer that was bought on Ubid. The board does have miner diff. the the ones I have seen pictures (just like a resister or two that I can see) I am unsure if they changed something so a drive cant be used as easy..my BIOS chip says: U7 A1B1

with a VoltMeter I would check Pins 41, 42, 43 as shown here.
(Use Needle Probes & Don't Short any 2 together !)

How does yours Look ?

About the bios label.
IST730 should always be there because the webplayer is actually an Acer I-Station 730.
U7 is because it is chip 7. You can see the U7 marked also on the mainboard close on one of the corners of the bios chipsocket.
I know of two different bios:
A1B1 is the one on my Virgin Webplayer bios.
A0B8 is the one on my ethernet-webplayer I bought directly from Boundless.
Anyone else got different ones?
On mine the mainboards are identical.

If anyone has a different mainboard as mine (see the site), for instance on the R236 subject, please post pictures of it.

A pic of the IDE connecter on my board showing R236. Please forgive the quality, my digital camera is junk.

Now here is proof. Thank you so much.
http://k-ray.netbox.be/journal_files/webplayer/pics/vwp134x.jpg
If you compare the picture I have with the one you have you can see
the minor difference.
I found another one: the connection of L4 on the lower side is a normal
track at mine but a full plane at yours.
So this proofs beyond doubt that there are at least two versions of mainboards around.

So PLEASE you all: more pictures!
Why? Because that `could' give answers on for instance the USB problem.
Chances are very small, but that could explain why some have luck with the USB working
and others don't.

I thought this issue would be important enough to have its
own thread so I launched 'Different versions of mainboards'.

Well, the Good News is I don't think the Hard Drive is Bad !!!

Starting from Your Power Supply, Take a DC Volts Reading, & Report back.
Take the + Lead & Trace out where it goes & take a reading after each device it passes thur.
(You are looking for a Voltage Drop (not @ a Regulator !))

Sorry, I Can't really Help, as I Don't have a Webplayer,
But this will be a Great Start for anyone who might be able to Help &
You could just get Lucky & find the Problem Yourself ! Good Luck !
