Experience with buying from uBid?

Ok, I just bought the ethernet version today. it looks like it's being sold by a uBid "Preferred Provider". Anybody know who that company is?

For those that purchased through uBid, how long did it take to receive it?

Funny that the Quantity keeps going down after every auction- 10 at a time a couple weeks ago, then 8, now 5.

Preferred Provider in this case is Boundless Inc., who made the WBP for Virgin.
Actually, taken one step further, assembly was apparently by a company they aquired recently, named Merinta - who ironically are located in my backyard of Austin, Tx.

Despite this fact it took 15 days to get mine; from July 2 - July 17th. Most of that time the status was 'At Suppliiers warehouse'. Once it changed to 'Product shipped' I got it 2 days later. Incidently, since my bid closed right before July 4th, I'm sure my wait was unusually long.

I first saw the WebPlayer while browsing the uBid auctions. It piqued my interest and I found sites like this and others discussing modifications to the WebPlayers. My first instinct was to buy one of the new, Ethernet WPs but I changed my mind and went with the older one due to the concern over installing a hard drive with the newer motherboards. Now that I've read through the newer postings, I worry that my older, refurbed modem model won't handle USB very well.

Regarding shipping, I won my auction on Monday morning, received an email stating that it had been shipped on Wednesday and received the box today (Friday). It is in great shape, came directly from Boundless (in NY state), and has the new Linux image on the DOC. I'm looking forward to pulling it apart and loading the Windows DOC image tonight or this weekend.

My only complaint--and it's minor--is that whoever reapplied the Virgin logo sticker to the monitor did a crappy job; it's all crooked.

I bought one a few weeks ago. It look about 10 days to arrive in CA. Works just fine. Clean. Shoved a hard drive in it with Win ME and haven't had a problem since. Just ordered... sorry... "bid" on another one tonight. This was the 10/100 version.

Just received my uBid Webplayer, modem model.
Does anyone else have a very washed out screen image with a decidedly blue tint?

Dickie,

I don't know if the image you have is out of the ordinary, but
in general the picture you get on the Webplayer is quite bad and
way off from the quality you get from a CRT or TFT/laptop.

Yeah, it's certainly not the best LCD in the world, but its good enough for an "ICQ" screen or mp3 player. I use a clean black background on all my monitors and this one always glows a bit, but if you "tune" it just right and stay at the same angle it's certainly acceptable. What do we expect for 150 bucks?
