Ok, I have my second WebPlayer and I want to install Linux on it - I took the 2.5" Drive and installed Linux on my laptop - and then switched it over to my WP. The Wp starts to boot and halts screaming that the install has been compiled for the Pentium platform. That makes sense since I installed it on a Pentium III machine. How can I get Linux installed on this???
You need to compile your kernel with 586 support not pentium, even though the WP has a pentium
class cpu, it's lacks some functionality mainly the TSC(time stamp counter) register. I recomend
puting the HD back in your laptop and reconfigure your kernel with 586 support and then recompile
and install it, then you should be able to boot it in the WP
Which Linux distribution did you use to install?
Most of them let you choose the kernel you want to install without compiling.
Choose 486-kernel and it should work fine on both machines.
