IR widget
broke it

Now, I've done it. I took someone's advice and tried to bend back the IR transceiver inside the wp and broke two of the leads right at the widget. I managed to dremel around the leads and solder the thing back on but I would really like to replace it. Does anyone have a source for these things?

The original part is TSOP1138.
I have a source for it in Europe, but only professionals can buy there.

There is also replacements available. These are not exactly the same.
Some have different pin-order or even need an extra pull-up resistor to work correctly.
TSOP1738, TSOP2138, SFH56-38, SFH506-38, SFH5110-38

If you can't find it I can buy one for you and ship it to you if you like.
I guess it won't reach USD 5,- included shipping.

Thanks Kray. I'm hoping somebody will have a dead MB and let me buy the part from them. Who's the european source for the TSOP1138, i'd prefer to use the original part. They'll probably sell to me.

It looks to be the 38KHZ Vishay Telefunken unit. I requested a quote on "engineering samples". Hey, I wonder if one of these will satisfy the irDa adapter device I wanted for my PC's motherboard....

The european source is Nedis

The TSOP1138 is a 38kHz remote control photo module.
It is a receiver only and not capable of running the high speed transfers
of irda.
Vishay/Telefunken has such parts though. This link brings you to the pc irda parts:
