I've got a webplayer and I've put a laptop hdd in it but it doesn't seem to spin up. The bios seems to be configured correctly from what i've read. So why won't it go? Any ideas? The cable is plugged in correctly but it seems like the mobo is missing pins. Any ideas?

The drive has to spin up inspite of incorrect bios configuration. It it does not then you definetly have the cable reverse. Change the direction of cable and see. Reverse cable will not damage a drive.
One missing pin is by design.
Hope this helps.

I have had 5 webplayers. One of them refused to recognize a hard drive no matter what I did. I hope that isn't your problem.

Firstly, the drive should spin even if it is not recognised by the BIOS. The problem is usually the cable round the wrong way or faulty. A word of warning here - definitely don't mess around connecting drives with the power on (duh!) Its very easy to fry a HD - I know. The main problem I experienced with hard drives seems to be related to the brand. I bought 2 WP for experimentation, and have a bunch of drives ranging from 2.1GB-20GB lying around. I found that none of the Fuji drives could be recognised by the BIOS, but ALL the Toshiba drives could be. Believe me - I messed around with settings for a long time trying to get those Fuji drives recognised and to this day never had any success, even though the BIOS is up to date and handles all large drives. Anyone out there had a different experience, if so what is the solution?
