I just got a webplayer and the screen is brighter around the edges. Is this normal or is my screen just messed up?

The screen of the webplayer is DSTN. It's a passive, low quality lcd.
In other words: it's a piece of crap, so don't expect anything of it.
So yes, if the light isn't homogene, it's quite 'normal'.
