Converting A Virgin Webplayer
Please No Flaming-I Just Need Simple Advice

We need to find out how to convert our Virgin Webplayers over to regular computers. I have made several searches here to get the information but cannot find what I need.

I am computer illiterate so please can you tell me how to do this in simple terms?

I am posting this as a last resort because I know that I will be flamed and have been trying to avoid that. I just don't know what else to do.

Hope someone can help me. Thank you for your consideration.

Big Dog, Thank you for your reply. Last year virgin Connect gave away 100+ webplayers and then a few months later, they cut everyone off. We cannot get online now.

They are fairly easy to fix up, kRay has done a lot with them including even adding a PCI card off the mini-pci socket, look throught the post here and you can find his web site.

Adding a hard drive is fairly easy, the header is already on and just requires a 44 pin IDE cable and notebook drive. Kray even added a cdrom to his.

The biggest issue I have seen and I came across when I had mine was the in-stablity of the USB, Windows ME seemd to help there.

The display is so so, The DSTN is not very sharp. And I didn't like that size, it seemd that I needed to be 6 inchs from the screen to see everthing but this might have just been mine.

Hey...if you want to do this the easy way you could send me your DOC chip and I will program them for you, and send them back. You will then have a lite version of win98 which you can use to get on the net. Just a thought if you don't want to buy a hard drive, cable and open up your webplayer.

Startoi, the most basic list of instructions on hacking a WP to make it a PC were found here:

http://www.larwe.com/technical/webplayer_main.html

Larwe's pretty much kicked it down to "layman's terms" rather well, whilst still keeping technical specs for the more experienced hackers.

Sym has spoken...now go kick yerself!
