Any success?

Has anyone had success getting a mini-PCI 802.11b card to work, and actualy pick up on a network? If so, what brand/model of card was it? I am looking to setup my webplayer on my wireless network, and would like some tips. Also, I have seen mini-PCI cards in types IIIA and IIIB. Which ones are the right type for the slot in the webplayer? It dosen't look as if anyone has really compared notes on this subject. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The 'ethernet' webplayers have a mini-pci NIC plugged in and yes it works.
At this moment I'm behind a router/firewall using a webplayer with both build-in modem for dial-in as a mini-pci nic for my internal network.
You can both use III-a and III-b types of cards.
I have no experience with wireless cards yet.

AFAIK, the only wierless min pci card you can buy is the dell version of the orinoco.
There are too many questions raised about drivers and antennas though !

mbaha,

sorry for the late answer. I don't come here that often.

The 'ethernet' version of the webplayer normaly comes with an Intel PRO/100 NIC.
It's an ethernet-only card and the original modem module is removed from the webplayer.

I have a unit with what I assume is a dead mini-pci ethernet card. I assume it's not the socket or something on the mobo.

What models of non-wireless NICs are you modem-to-ethernet upgrade guys using?

My other two webplayers are ethernet, but i'm afraid to test one of their NICs in this dead one, fearing it may fry that one too.

I need some info. on mini pci cards. I am looking to add a mini pci 10/100 and 56k combo card to my webplayer. As I understand (please correct me if i am wrong) the mini pci card fits in the mini pci slot and then there will be some connectors (wires) which will connect this mini pci card to a small board which contains the RJ11 and RJ45 ports (jacks). Now, what i see in ebay is that only the OEM card itself is sold. Where can i get the wires to connect the mini pci card to the RJ11 and RJ45 ports and I also need the small board itself (can i buy this too?) with the RJ11 and RJ45 ports, which i plan to replace in place of the twin RJ11 jacks of the webplayer.

IBM Thinkpads to my knowledge use type III Mini-PCI and I found the parts available from their Parts Center 800-388-7080 at the time of this posting part numbers and pricing as follows.

Card P/N 12P3637 - $105.00
Antenna P/N 26P9712 - $22.00

I'm going to try this when I get it I'll let everyone know.

Not sure if this has been found already, but I'll post it anyway. I'm not even sure if they would sell you one. Hmmm...

802.11a Mini PCI Type III:

It'd be cool, prolly expensive though.

I am very sorry to keep you waiting, I got the card from dell and it has been sitting in my basement for a long while now. I attempted to make a power supply to run my webplayer from inside my car and it (power supply/step down voltage transfromer) never worked, since then I have not touched the webplayer.

One thing I noticed is that the wireless mini-pci needs an antenna and I do not have a slightess clue on how to make one for it.
I will check back here more often, and will post if the webplayer boots up, etc. when mini-pci is installed.

Vadim
PS I wish this board would email me, when replies are added to the topics we post in.
