DOC reset?
Is it possible to "reset" the DOC?

I am finally getting around to modifying my webplayers that I bought with the coop. I’m using them as terminals for a multi-user DOS network.

While updating the DOC in one of my WPs, I used the dformat utility with the /first option, telling the DOC that I wanted it to boot before the HD (I’ve since realized that that was stupid because I don’t plan on running my players with HDs only with the DOCs). Anyway, I forgot to “sys” the DOC making it bootable before powering the machine down.

Now the player won’t boot up because it says that there is not a valid system disk. What it’s trying to do is boot off of the DOC but the system is not installed there. The player won’t boot off of the attached HD. I’ve messed with some of the BIOS setting but can’t get it to boot off of the HD so I can transfer the system to the DOC.

Anybody have any ideas?

Try physically removing the DOC chip. That should do it. But I don't know how you would be able to reformat the DOC.

aolsheepdog,
Did you ever get this to work again?

I was _occasionally_ able to get a webplayer to boot off one of the self-powered Zip100 usb drives (it seemed to be timing related and would sometimes behave differently after reseting the bios configuration data.) I don't know if this will work with a doc set to boot with /first

M-Sytems replied to my queries with:
"Try using CNTRL-ALT-B prior to the DOC signon messages to prevent the
firmware from loading. You may have to enter this key configuration several
times for the system to register (usually starting after the memory check)"

Worked like a charm allowing the Webplayer to boot the HD ready for the correct dformat command. Much simpler solution than what I had feared.
