Just a note to anyone interested in adding a normal serial port to your Webplayer. The USB to Serial port converters do work on the Webplayers. The one I bought came with drivers on a floppy. I copied the floppy to another computer and transfered the files via my network, then when windows detected the new hardware I pointed it to the files on the hard drive. I am running with the WIN98 lite image.

What is your network connection?

If USB Ethernet, what make/model of adapter do you use?

Thanks!

To add my 2cents: I use a Netgear EA101 USB network adapter which works fine on Webplayer. Using Widows98SE on a harddrive. I picked the EA101 up for $20 including shipping on eBay.

I picked up the chips free from maxim and hacked in a standard serial port.

Works fine. Search some of the old threads for info on doing this.

I search for quite a while but could find nothing conclusive on adding serial ports. Could you share some of your experience, joemac?
