I enabled the power saving in BIOS

and I followed the instruction on

http://www.geocities.com/nojx2/

here is my problem...

When I push the power button, the LCD screen powers off, power on green LED is still on. The system APPEARS to be in "stand by" mode.

However, no matter what I do, I can't bring the system back. Am I missing something? Or is there a special button to push to bring the system back? I have tried hitting the power button itself and no go.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks for the link :)

I got my power button to work, did you remove the microsoft device from the device manager then re install the microsoft driver? I did that then i installed the hotfix for the WP (not a hot fix.. i had to reboot!)

I am able to go in to stand by mode now. This was my only problem.. I hate unplugging things..

Side note: my usb ethernet came up fine after coming out of stand by :)

yeah, I did remove my current APM driver and reinstall it according to the instruction on MS's website.

I can go into standby mode but I could never get back out. What did you push to "wake up" the machine? Is it any keys or does it have to be a certain key?

Also, would you mind sharing your BIOS Power setting information? I only enabled the power saving but I think I have the rest disabled on that screen. how about yours?

This is the ONLY thing that is not working for me right now, I will be a happy camper when I get this to work.

My BIOS power settings are:

Power Savings: Enabled
Standby Timeout: 1 Hour
Resume On Time: off
Resume Time: 00:00:00

So nothing realy exciting. To wake up the WP,I hit any key or move thetrack ball (i like hiting the shift key). It does take 10 seconds to wakeup (Hit shift, screen turns on, cursor apears at the top left, screen switches to graphics mode, WP is ready). It works just like any other pc in standby mode.

I dont know what to tell you. are you runing win98SE or light? I have win98se installed on a 6 gig toshiba formated FAT with 3 partitions.

I am running win98SE full version on a 3.2G Hitachi HD w/ 2 partition. Win98SE is installed from the 2nd partition. The only thing that I did that could be the culprit is that my power saving setting is DISABLED during the initial win98 install. I turned it back on later after installtion and install the proper APM drivers.

Also, currently I have the Standby Timeout set to DISABLED. Maybe THAT's the problem too. I don't know but I SHALL find out. I shall conquere it. :)

jayklm, can I contact u via icq or email, if you dont' mind, that is. You have been helpful to my situation, I really appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem with waking up. I've tried moving the mouse, clicking the right and left buttons, clicking shift, spacebar, etc... all to no avail. I've tried looking into the settings for sleepmode for an option to maybe choose how to wake up, but no luck there either. by the way, i have the full 98 on a 2.5" toshiba 3.9 GB drive.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

At least for my case, after numerous attempts, I discovered that if I remove ALL USB devices (both the mouse and the reader) when Win98SE starts, I can go into sleep mode and wake up just fine. I then plugged in both of my USB devices and the suspends button works just fine. So the key is to remove all USB devices during startup and plug them in AFTERWARDS.

hope this helps.

Cool I am glad you figured it out! USB devices are weird sometimes. I am glad my USB ethernet adaptor does not cause that problem! I have it soldered in to place!
