ok, just got webplayer out of the box. In the Basic set-up there is an option for LAN connection. If i plucg in a usb LAN adapter (i have a 3com and a dlink from my audrey's) will this get me online?

Probably not - you would need to have the drivers for it in the webplayer, but the stock software on the DOC is pretty horrible.

so what is the purpose of the LAN option in the set-up?

some webplayer came with a eithernet adaptor pluged into the mini pci slot. If you can find the same or a similar adaptor it may work. Your best bet would be to install win98 lite on the doc then you can use windows drivers for everything

when i click ctrl-f1 it just takes me to basic setup. no rotating password screen. It even says on the login screen "Press ctrl+f1 to enter your ISP settings". i don't see any of the setup options mentioned in the other threads. Do i have a different version?

yes that is where you enter your ISP's settings then get on the internet. You don't have the orginal Virgin OS you have the OS from boundless ie the webplayers they where selling on ubid. The only thing you can do with that OS is get on the internet. What are you tring to do?

well, eventually i will do the 98 hard drive hack but for now i just want to see how the thing works. I'd really like to see it running qnx but i haven't the knowledge to get that up and running

you can put win98 on the DOC that way you can do more than just sruf then net

Unless there is a way to do it without the 44 pin ide cable and small hd. i'm SOL...for now anyway.
