Help with Dell Mini PCI wireless

Ok, I bought a Dell mini-PCI wireless card from ebay. Since the card was made by Lucent/Orinoco, I figured I could use the drivers and client manager from my Orinoco disk. Well they don't seem to work. The drivers seem to install fine, but the client manager install keeps failing. Does anyone have the original Dell disk that they could host somewhere for me? I would be more than happy to paypal a few bucks for the effort.

What OS are you using? I am pretty sure everything you need is download'able from Dell's site; You do need to use Dell's flavor of the Orinoco drivers and manager. I got the TrueMobile card somewhat working on a GCT and was told by other here it worked on the Webplayer.....

If you are using Win2K, there is a special interupt sharing driver that needs to be loaded, off the top of my head I can't remember what it's name is.

I'm running win98. Maybe I'm just an idiot, but when I go to Dell's site to find the software, I am asked to sign in. When I try to sign up, it asks me for a service tag from my Dell computer. Well since I don't have a Dell, I can't get in. I've searched through Google and found Dell pages that have the software, but when I follow the link, I'm am sent to the sign in page, so I'm back where I started.

How did you hook up the antenna for this card?

To test my card I stuck a single piece of 24 gauge wire (telephone wire) that happened to be on my bench into the cable that came with the card. It works, but isn't very reliable (I'm not surprised, this was just to test the thing).

It's about a 2 foot length I haven't even trimmed yet. Hopefully I'll have some time to play with making an antenna tonight.

I used the Lucent/Orinoco External Antenna. I removed the modem and jacks and ran the cable through there. The antenna plugs directly into the little pigtail supplied with the card. Works very well. Got good coverage throughout the house.

Cenywtyl, let me get this straight. I am holding one of the pigtails right now. Both ends have the same mini coax plugs (AYU connector?). You have found an antenna that uses this pigtail, or is this a different cable? If so, what is the model of the antenna, and where can it be found?

Yes you have to use the pigtail that comes with the card. The connector on the ORINOCO INDOOR RANGE EXTENDER ANTENNA has the same connector on it that the Dell card does, so you have to use the pigtail to connect the two together, sort of like a male to male connector. Gateway sells the antenna here:

You can also find them on ebay like here:

Vadim,

You can DL the driver here...

I've got mine working with the MIG24WAVE antenna stuck to the back of my screen. Works great!!!

As soon as I construct my battery pack, I'll be completely wireless! :)
