I have a very long and complicated VNC question for you....
I have a very long and complicated VNC question for you....

This is kind of hard to explain...but here goes: First, my computer has 2 video cards, a nice one and an old crappy one. I put in the old crappy one just to see what it was like to have 2 monitors, and I LOVE it! The only problem is, the second monitor I was using goes with a different computer, and there isn't room on my desk for a second monitor. That is where the webplayer comes in. Is there a way I can use VNC to show what would be on the second monitor, on a webplayer? If what I am asking doesnt quite make sense, don't hesitate for clarifcation, I barely understand it myself...

Thanks!

What OS?

But, if I understand your question, I don't think you can use VNC to selectively grab the portion of screen that the
second monitor would display. But, since your display is some funky resolution (ie 1600x1024), maybe use could use
VNC on the webplayer and move vncviewer to display only the portion you want...make sense?!?

Kinda makes sense....I am using windows XP...I will try it out as soon as I get my hardware to cooperate, both my network connection and my second video card are taking a little vacation at the moment...

OK, I finally got everything to cooperate (kinda) and it is very cool. I found a program that works with VNC for dual monitors, it is great! If anyone wants it let me know. The webplayer just sits there like a second, flat screen monitor! The only thing is...this is with my older machine that runs windows 98. I can't get the second video card to work under XP. Does anyone know if there is a way I can get the dual monitors to work without a second video card, since there will be no monitor plugged into it anyway?

zmoz, can you give the details on the VNC dual monitor program? Does this allow you to share the same keyboard and mouse? I'm thinking about mounting my webplayer upside-down on the bottom of the hutch shelf of my computer desk. I think it would look cool as a flip-down second monitor. I'm also looking at using the terminal server solution discussed in a recent thread, but I don't know of a way to share the keyboard and mouse. If anyone else has any ideas about this please chime in. I really like the idea of having a second disply I could flip down to use for documents, manuals, etc. while working on the "real" screen.

yes, you can use the same keyboard and mouse. It is exactly like having an actual second monitor plugged in, although not quite the same because the VNC is a little delayed. You can also use the webplayer's keyboard when controling the second screen if you want. I can send the dual monitor VNC program to you if you need it, its not the normal vnc.

Thanks for the hint DSPTECH11 and the file zmoz, I got it. I'll either use this, or a combination of Terminal Server client and win2vnc mentioned earlier for mouse and keyboard sharing. I guess I'll try both and see what gives the best performance AND works with pivot, since my display will be upside-down. I'm leaning towards the terminal server since it wont require me to install a second video card, but this is a nice find too. If anyone else has something similar set up I'de love to hear about it, including upside-down mounting suggestions. When/if I get this going I'll post the details and maybe a pic.
