Two newbie questions:

1) How do we get to the screen where we put in the password?

2) Once you're there, are you able to select the boot drive order? Somebody be charitable enough to post a description of what you're seeing... :)

Thanks to the genius who cracked or socially engineered the "schwasck" password, lol.

hit the open book key when your webplayer is booting up.

Yes, it has quite a nice bios, with all the standard options..

This has probably been discovered already, but thought it might be helpful to post it. You *can* set a new BIOS password, and it will keep that password (even if the power is disconnected, due to the internal battery).

However, you can't *clear* the password. Any attempt to do so will reset it back to "schwasck".

Now, time to start trying out the various laptop hard drives I've got around here. Anyone have any luck with getting it to boot another OS yet? So far, both the BIOS and the hardware seem straightforward enough that I don't think there'll be a problem. :)

When mine is booting up I hit the "Open Book" key and I don't get into the BIOS screen. I can't be doing too much wrong. The Webplayer just comes up to the Login Screen.

Can somebody help?

sseay, I've discovered that you have to hit that key repeatedly. Follow these guidelines:

1) First, unplug the unit from the wall. This won't work if it's just in a regular shut-down state with instant-on Virginconnect screen. So... unplug the unit from the wall for a full power-down for a few seconds.

2) Then plug the unit back in. You'll see that you don't even have to press the "on" button now because it will turn on automatically once it's been unplugged and plugged back in.

3) Immediately press that "open-book" key repeatedly until you see the BIOS screen. (The "open-book" key corresponds to F2 on a regular keyboard.)

That's it!

Randy,

thanks.

After posting, I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in and did basically what you described.

Thanks for helping and not flaming me for being a mindless putz, or a non-tech weanie.

P.S.

God loves us all. Isn't it awesome!
