Has anyone successfully replaced the power jack on the back of the webplayer ?

From plugging/unplugging it their, the jack starting making bad contact. Since I wanted to use this for experimenting anyway, I've tried soldering wires direct to the pads, but it behaves like it isn't getting enough current.

I've even scraped clean the area around the +5 pad (there is a rather large copper area there) and soldered about 16 gauge wire right to it, no dice. It still keeps recycling (power light goes from green to yellow, mail blinks, repeats)

I've got a few, but I would hate to loose a whole player for the stupid power connector !

i know this is closing the barn door after the horse bolts. But for anyone working on there webplayer. i suggest powering up and down by unplugging from the brick instead of the rear of the wp.

hello
its easier to get an extension cord that has the switch on it that way you dont have to unplug anything.
but besides that i did in fact replace the power jack because i messed it up and while i was at it i wired the jack to a rocker switch i put on the front replacing the suspend button so now i have a cool on off switch right on front .now 2 of the connectors are ground and one is power , you dont wanna remove or otherwise disconnect tracings and the like if you dont have to ,since this is multilayered you may not be able to see were all the connections are being made just by the the look of the top or bottom of the board. i dont know what you mean by scraping clean but your problem may have something to do with that . maybe check to see if you may have overlooked a connection. also note that radio shack sells the same kind of jacks so you should have replaced it with a similar one before you thought of attaching wires

poisonfistclan,

would it be possible to post some detailed instruction on how you did the power switch and/or maybe some pictures? That would be great.
