We need a BIGGER, better sounding webplayer speaker. Anyone tried modding? MUST READ THIS!
Lets face it, speakers on Webplayer, SUCK, they suck so badly well, that I cannot even think of a decent putdown for it!

This is a serious issue with Webplayer, the sound!

Hi. Has anyone tried removing those little tiny telephone speakers that sound all scratchy with poor, weak output? I was considering replacing with some tweeters, or very small mid range from a Multimedia PC speaker system, if theres enough room near the LCD/don't want speaker magnet too close. I was wondering if someone knows how to add an 'tiny' amplifier, possibly like a boostaroo for portable Cd/cassette players? I think thats what they're called. You just hook the speaks to jack then plug it into it. You'd need a small power source, possibly solder the battery feeds to something on webplayer using resistors to regulate it to 3.3v or whatever it ACTUALLY takes.

It'll make it a pretty sweet setup, if you move around a lot, such as when you want to move webplayer to a easy-chair lying back surfing the web or at the dinner table, where you don't have that entertainment system to jack into or for when you don't want to carry/wear silly headphones with it?

I mean, the damn thing has speakers built in they should be able to at least play SOUND with 'em! Someone come up with some ideas, quick! :)

Thanks!!

I think this is one of the most serious flaws with the Virgin, Not being able to hear from speakers that do WORK. If we could just figure how to 'improve' the power and quality from another smaller speaker setup, I mean, I don't need 2x HUGE 12" midrange speakers mounted on the sides of my broken/magnetized DTSN screen from the weight/magnet, LOL! I just need a simple replacement sound when I sit 3 feet away.

C'mon someone show their moddin' skillz...

I haven't done any mods yet but I did notice that the portion of the screen that houses the speakers hangs over the back of the base unit when the screen is folded down. This gives you room to place some much deeper speakers in the existing locations if you are willing to cut holes in the backplate of the screen.

Yes end, I seen that too! There is plenty of room above the LCD display for adding a better speaker there, I'm just looking for a good sounding one.

The speaker they put in there was probably used just for system beeps and key click sounds nothing else, now I run my mp3's off wp and it just sounds like pure crap.

I don't know about a boostaroo, I used to own one... until it got stolen along with my minidisc
player and sony V700DJ headphones... AAArrrggghhh!!!!... I think a boostaroo would be too to fit inside the LCD, But if you could get just the boostaroo board, and run 3vDC to it (where you get 3v, I don't know) it would work. I think I read somewhere that the boostaroo could take up to 6vDC, or even 9V, don't quote me on that though, and I don't know how much it would distort.

i have a presario laptop with the small JBL speakers.. i noticed some of these speaker assemblys for pretty cheap on ebay. bought a couple, popped the speakers out the assembly and replaced the WP speakers.. big improvement! if u dont want to take the screen apart, maybe u can find a way to leave them in the assembly(helps out the sound quite a bit and it is ported) and mount them over the led panel in the front, but im not sure if the whole assembly would fit inside..
