Trying to get Ethernet for your Webplayer and keep hitting a brick wall?

Get the LinkSys USB100M Ethernet adaptor. $40 at Circuit City (might be cheaper online)

I have tried this adaptor in 8 different Webplayers and it has worked FLAWLESSLY with everyone of them.

The adaptor must be plugged in BEFORE the unit is powered on to be properly seen, but it survived reboots / shutdowns / hibernations without dropping off the network or flaking out in any way.

Yes it costs a little more that some of the other USB solutions out there, but it works for 100% which was all I really wanted in the first place.

Also if you want to go Wireless, the DELL WIFI cards that keep showing up on eBay in the $50 range work famously in Win98 and WinME.

I got one and have set my Webplayer up as a wireless access point for when my friends come over and want to get on my network with there laptops.

Enjoy!

Probably been posted elsewhere previously, but the Linksys USB Wireless works beautifully. Yeah, it's external and less than cheap, but it's a slam dunk and you can hide it pretty well depending on where you're WP is sitting.

I also tried a Linksys Mini PCI card and it unreliable for me.

Just my $.02.

If you want a NON-Wirelesss, USB NIC solution, get the Xircom USB NIC. Why pay $40 when you can pay $5 + shipping (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-Details.asp?sku=X13-0054%20P).

This card has been tried and tested on MANY different Webplayers without ANY problems. Plus, you can drill a hole in the corner of the board to mount in the webplayer in place of the modem jacks (see picture: http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3p6xv/Virgin.jpg)

The main reason that I went with the LinkSys adaptor is that it was available at Circuit city and I could just go down and get it. Plus most of the "internal" USB solutions interfere with the space needed for the mini-PCI slot. And if you need to use a mini-PCI card.........

Also, I don't currently have an antenna attached to my card and it seems to be working just fine. I've got ICS set up on it under WinME and I have had other wireless users connect to me from up to 30 feet away, which is further than my specific project requires.

If anyone have info on where to buy an antenna for it, please feel free to post the info.
