Yes, I got one today and am trying it in my webplayer tonite,
to buy one go onto ebay and search for "2.5 laptop" and you will
find laptop hard drive converter to a 3.5 inch ide so there is a
female 2.5 conn and a male 3.5 conn... Hope this helps

Shop around--I've found them for $6 (inc. mounting rails). Search for links in the iO section

All of those ebay kits are for the other direction, putting a laptop hd in a desktop.. I think what he (and I) would like to do is put a 3.5 hd to the webplayer's 2.5 interface.. Ideas? You can also mail me direct, rtgoodwin@austin.rr.com.

Thanks!

Try http://www.badflash.com/iopener.htm - he does cables and adaptors for the i-opener and has some designed to run a 3.5" drive of the 2.5 pin ide header.

A couple of you guys contacted me, so I figured I come over and see if we can figure out what you need. I have no experience with the Virgin, so you guys will need to bear with me. Because no one seems to know if you need a flipped or an unflipped cable, let me suggest this until someone figures it out and tells me.

I'll build a short cable that can be used both ways, flipped and unflipped. I'll put a double connector on one end. For flipped plug one or the other of the double connectors into the motherboard. For unflipped, plug the middle two rows of the double connector onto the motherboard. You can do a similar thing with the 2.5" drive, but backwards (believe it or not). You guys will need to figure out how long the cables need to be.

For the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter assembly with double connectors at one end would be $17.50 for the standard setup. Internal custom cables are done by the foot and # of connectors. My supplier just raised my cable prices (yea likely story) so as of tomorrow cables are $2 a foot, or any part of a foot, and $2.50 a connector. I also need $4 shipping per order, no matter how much you order.

In case you don't follow what the double connector does, it is just an easy way to swap the top & bottom rows without switching every other wire. This means that a "flipped" cable for one drive needs 3 connectors and not 2. With any luck you won't need "flipped" cables, but the nice thing about the double connectors is they work both ways.

Just a plane-Jane 44 pin laptop IDE cable works great. I've got one with a bastardized 40 pin connector and cable soldered to the end so that my hard drive and cdrom can be hooked up, and it works just fine with no flipping or rewiring.

If you don't need a flipped cable, you would need one for a clean 44 to 40 pin conversion. If you use an I-O cable, a male to male 44 pin header and a 44 to 40 pin adapter you can hook up an external drive with a suitable power supply. I have all those on my page. Standard 44 pin cables up to 1' are $7.50 each + $4 shipping per order. Male to male headers are $5 as are 44-40 pin adapters.

Problem is: How do you get power to the 3.5" drive using the 44-40 pin connector? I don't recall any extra power cables in the webplayer.
