QNX on disk on chip, sandisk?

New MessageQNX on disk on chip, sandisk? (modified 0 times) CockVirus

I can't be assed to stick a hard drive in my webplayer - what's the point?

However, I do like the idea of a handy little box that I can use to surf in the kitchen, in the garden or in bed. If I could put the QNX Modem demo on the machine locally, I'd be satisfied. However, I have no idea how to do this.

Can the disk on chip be reformatted, or replaced with another o/s chip? Can I put a sandisk into the motherboard? If so, would it be a simple matter getting the bios to recognize the sandisk and hence QNX Modem?

Any ideas?

At some point, codeman mentioned a 44-pin IDE to Compact Flash adapter. ($20) Using this adapter, you can put a CF card in there. Or you can put Jailbait Linux on the DOC. But you need a notebook HD to get the data onto the DOC.

The DOC that comes with it is 48 meg...seems like you could put alot more then that 16 meg distro on there...preferably something with KDE2 on it. ;) How exactly do you go about rewriting the DOC ...you boot off the hard drive and the doc will show up as just another drive letter which you then "format" ????

Since the Virgin normally boots off the DOC, the machine must see the DOC as a fixed disk. So yeah what you said should work but you might have to fiddle a bit with the BIOS to get it working.

The DOC seems to be the cheapest, easiest way forward to keep this little box functional as a free ISP bed-surfing device.

I have yet to open my webplayer up, so pardon my ignorance. But it sounds like the DOC is pretty easy to remove.

It's the reformatting bit I'm not entirely following. Does the DOC somehow have the same pin connections as a laptop hard drive, meaning it can be plugged into a laptop's IDE cable?

A step-by-step would be really helpful here, assuming someone has done the mod already.

Cheers!

FYI
Typed at jbaitis of JailBait Linux for DOC fame. (http://jailbait.sourceforge.net) Said doing a 48MB image of JailBait looks interesting and he'd take a look. Hopefully, when he starts devel. again after 2.4.0 is out we'll see something for the WebPlayer.
