AKA, the 14 pin connector needed to connect the rj45 wires to those ibm mini-pci nic some of us have bought. I have been patiently waiting and waiting for them to restock it. The promise date moved forward a week, great! Then 2 days ago, I got that "deliver information" link when they ship their samples. Perfect, delivered early, but instead of telling me the shipping method, it says "not shipped." I thought it's in the process of shipping. But yesterday when I checked again, it still says no shipped. My other sample request I made also showed the same thing today. It looks like Molex is getting a lot of request for these connectors from us, and they are filtering them out. :(

What am I going to use for the connector? I really don't want to spend $25 the HP connector, especially I've already waited almost 3 weeks and got everythings except that damn little connector set up for my webplayer.... Maybe I can just hook up those 4 wires and use hot glue to hold them in place or something, I don't know. Any one got any other ideas?

ps. The USB nic wouldn't work either, since it's $30, might as well get the HP coonector. Save on shipping for 2 too. -_-

It is relatively easy to solder wires in place: cut away the plastic from the top of the socket over the area where the plug would fit with a razor-knife (i.e., not the top of the sides or the top of the back (which holds the pins in.)) Bend up every other pin, and you have more than enough space to solder, using the molex socket guide in another thread for positioning the wires.

I was hoping i can keep the card in tact so there may still be some resale value if I ever decide to. But it looks like it's either $40 for the connectors, or no resale value. I guess I can keep the card. Would it be better if I solder it on to the back of the connector? where they meet the pcb? It seems to have more room there.

ps. It took me 3 hours to crimp all those wires dammit. (8 rj45 + 4 leds X 2 cards = 24 wires)

If you cut away the top of the jack, you have about four times that space for soldering. I personally would have difficulty soldering to the pins on the back of the jack, due to their small size.

thanks jpe_dty. I'll give it a shot. Since I'll be soldering thos pins, it I want to do as little as possible. Which 2 pins are the ones for the activity led? the top 2 or bottom 2?

I don't actually know which is the activity light: I was sufficiently lazy to simply not solder either one in!

Pin 1 and 2 are for activity led, and the pin 13 14 are for link led. I used a led and just poked the pins on it. lol. Well, got the rj45 to work. I can see the shared folders on my network drives. But I could not get my cable connection to work. Strange. Have to try if using a router will work. If anyone has any different ideas, please do share! :)

thanks jpe_dty, the soldering definitely solved the connector problem, but it isn't very pretty. lol. Took me some time and some burned skin to get it all together.

well, I'm so pissed right now. I went to check my mail box, and there it is, samples from Molex. AFTER I've soldered my RJ45 directly onto the pins. All the sample requests showed "not shipping" and here it is, in my hand. Good thing I only soldered one of the card. I still 1 nice looking one to play with. Oh well, what can I complain, I'm getting it for free.
