Audio problem

Ok, i have everything up and running on my webplayer now but i've run into a problem. I have the audio drivers installed, line in muted and audio works. However when i open up winamp and plan an mp3 it sounds fine if its 128kbps anything above that rate and it starts to get flakey. Looking at the resource meter the cpu is only running about 20-30% but the sound is really jumpy like if the cpu usage was at 100%. I've tried several mp3's and two different players(winamp and stp) and its the same way with both. Anyone got any suggestions to try or know what the problem could be?
