Need help ide cable 44 pin

Hi,
Tried cablesonline for their $7.99 10" cable. Trouble is i'm in the UK. and shipping comes in at over $25!
The only cables i can find here in the uk are way too short ~ around 2"
I've tried all the obvious, Maplins etc.... Most just look at me, shrug their shoulders and point me to the 40 -> 44 pin cables.

Can anyone help.

My webplayer has not arrived yet its just i want to try and get everything sorted.

Well... couldn't you just buy a bunch of 2-inch cables and use cut resister leads in the holes (since both ends of the cables are female) and tape the parts together? Ghetto, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Had, thought of that as i have actually seen some male to male adaptors. However i was hoping to make a neater job and would prefer bjust a single cable. This would allow folding where needed to route the cable.

Cheers
Anyway

badflash.com, whose banner ads adorn this site, does a good job on building custom cables and doesn't seem out of line on shipping

the badflash cable for $6.50 is a good price.
I wish he would put up pictures of his products though.
He doesn't say otherwise so I would guess his
cable only connects one internal drive to the WP.

I bought some laptop cable, connectors, and a
crimper and have been making my own cables. my current
basic design allows for a second slave drive to be attached
for doing backups and file copies without having to
take the master drive out of the WP. I have the drive
under the modem card with the drive pins facing the back
of the WP. it goes from there to the drive header on top
of the motherboard. the cable is split lengthwise to make
it more flexible. I then continue the cable from there to
two or three inches beyond the side edge of the motherboard and
add another female connector. I split this cable too.
I also open up the rectangular opening that is already there
on the side of the WP to make it easier to shove the connector
back inside and to pull it back out. the gray plastic side
panel just pops off. pull out the connector and plug in a
second (slave) laptop drive and away you go. shove the
connector back inside and snap the side panel back on.
very handy.

I also made an additional short male to male cable so I can
change the gender of the second connector. I can then use
the laptop-to-desktop adapter to connect a regular desktop hardrive
to the WP for backups and file copies. that way you don't
have to buy a second laptop drive just for backups. When
doing this I power the desktop drive externally with an
old PC power supply. I don't want to risk having the WP
power both the internal laptop drive and an external desktop
drive at the same time. the 44 pin male connectors are a
big pain to work with and crimp though!

I have an idea for a more complex cable I want to build that would
be even more flexible. But I need to buy some more 44 pin male connectors
to make that one. it would allow me to disconnect the internal
laptop drive and either attach two external drives or to connect
the internal drive directly to your desktop system for backups
and file copies. the internal drive disconnect would be placed at
the left side panel. external laptop or desktop drives would
be attached by the right side panel. (I'm looking at the front of
the WP when I left or right.)
